Doctor shortages are one of the biggest healthcare challenges in America today and as our Lead Data Scientist you’ll be directly working at Barton to solve it.

As our Data Scientist you will work closely with our Lead Data Scientist and Chief AI Officer to drive commercial growth for the organization by combining your advanced technical skills, consulting, and business acumen. Your primary focus will be to drive sales growth by helping Barton identify key recruiting opportunities (think doctors, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants) and get them to sign on with us for locum tenens services. Typical problems for this role will solve include:

• Which providers are most likely to work with Barton?
• Which providers would be the best fit for a posted listing?
• What is the best time, channel, and message to engage with providers?
• What is the optimal outreach and engagement strategy for a provider?
• How many providers should a recruiter work with?
• What future specialties do we need to start focusing on today for needs tomorrow?

• 0 to 3 years of professional experience in predictive modeling, data science, machine learning
• Fluency with data science tools, e.g., SQL, Python, R, and ability to learn new tools on the fly
• Academic or professional experience with explainable machine learning, e.g., Shapley
• Academic or professional experience using LLMs, e.g., API calls to chatGPT
• Robust conceptual understanding of machine learning and AI, e.g., what is XGBoost and how does it work, and generative AI, e.g., how does gradient descent work, why is it relevant
• Comfort and experience engaging with business peers and leaders, this role will be expected to present to leaders intermittently
• Comfort in both back office / heads down mode as well as front office / interpersonal mode, in other words you not only like building models, you also like promoting, teaching, and explaining them to non-technical people
